a famous US newspaper read mainly by people who are well educated. The paper is published each morning in New York and can also be bought all round the world. There is also a large Sunday issue. The Times first appeared in 1851 (as the New York Daily Times) and has won the most ↑Pulitzer Prizes of any newspaper, including one for the ↑Pentagon Papers. The New York Times Company also owns radio and television stations, magazines and other newspapers, including the International Herald-Tribune and the ↑Washington Post.
